Background of the Study
Hotels in crisis-prone areas face unique challenges that demand effective emergency response strategies. Borno State, affected by insurgency and other security risks, presents a critical case for evaluating how hotels prepare for and respond to emergencies. Effective strategies are essential for ensuring guest safety, maintaining operational continuity, and protecting the reputation of hospitality establishments.
Globally, crisis management in the hospitality sector has become a significant area of study, with research emphasizing the importance of preparedness, staff training, and collaboration with local authorities (Jones et al., 2023). In Borno State, hotels face challenges such as inadequate resources, limited staff training, and insufficient coordination with emergency services, which hinder their ability to respond effectively during crises (Abdullahi & Ibrahim, 2024).
This study evaluates emergency response strategies employed by hotels in Borno State, providing insights into their effectiveness and areas for improvement.
Hotels in Borno State operate in a high-risk environment, where crises such as insurgency attacks, health emergencies, and natural disasters are prevalent. However, many hotels lack robust emergency response strategies, putting guests and staff at risk. This situation undermines guest confidence, affects hotel occupancy rates, and damages the reputation of the local hospitality industry (Yusuf & Bello, 2023).
This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of current emergency response strategies and recommend improvements tailored to the unique challenges of crisis-prone areas.
To assess the effectiveness of emergency response strategies employed by hotels in Borno State.
To identify gaps and challenges in existing emergency response frameworks.
To propose practical solutions for improving emergency preparedness and response in hotels.
How effective are the current emergency response strategies in hotels in Borno State?
What challenges hinder the implementation of robust emergency response frameworks?
What strategies can enhance emergency preparedness and response in hotels in Borno State?
Current emergency response strategies in hotels are not significantly effective in addressing crises.
Challenges in emergency response frameworks do not significantly hinder preparedness in hotels.
Proposed strategies for enhancing emergency response do not significantly improve crisis management in hotels.
This study examines emergency response strategies in hotels in crisis-prone areas of Borno State from 2023 to 2025. Limitations include access to sensitive security information and variability in hotel preparedness levels.
